For the student who is curious about everything.

A proposal for staying curious.

You do not need to choose between being curious and becoming technically strong. But curiosity becomes more useful when you give it a method.

Start with one system you can understand well enough to ask a specific question. Build a simple model. Check it against a measurement. Find out where it fails. Then explain that failure to someone else.

The domain may change later. The habit of asking clear questions, checking assumptions, writing usable code, and learning from evidence will travel with you.

My route from process-control work toward biological modeling is a testament to this, and very largely so. These are not identical systems. They are different places to apply a shared discipline of measurement, modeling, and careful decisions.
